About Move For Hunger
Thousands upon thousands of citizens in North America throw away “stuff” they don’t need -most often including a serviceable portion of non-perishable items- upon moving in order to make a move easier by cutting down to the bare necessities. However, a lot of the food thrown away every move could be delivered to a family in need rather than tossed in the garbage. That’s where Move For Hunger comes in! Redefyne Moving has teamed up with Move For Hunter by offering to pick up any unwanted, non-perishable food items, pack everything up and deliver it to your local food bank to help families in need.
In the first five years of Move For Hunger’s beginnings, they’ve been honored at the VH1 Do Something Awards, launched a real estate program, a running program, launched a corporate housing program, and managed to collect over 5 million pounds of food. All within the first 5 years! Fast forward to today, Spring 2019, they’re working with over 1,000 relocation companies across the USA and Canada and have delivered over 14 million pounds of food to families in need.
Move For Hunger’s Mission
Move For Hunger considers everyone when it comes to hunger. Hunger is a huge problem in the United States, but not as easily seen as some of the other problems we face. When most people consider hunger a problem, they think of starving children in a third-world country or homeless people throughout the nation. But it’s more than just meets the eye. In a country well known for its wealth and prosperity, 42 million American citizens struggle with the ever-growing issue of hunger every day. It’s no longer just about a homeless man desperately searching for help to secure his next meal, but millions upon millions of people in America struggling to feed their families.
As easy as it might be to miss, hunger is not exclusive to one specific demographic or specific to one place in the world- we’re surrounded by it, and the number of citizens in the US suffering from hunger grows substantially every day. Hunger can affect everyone in numerous ways, as adults can tend to live shorter, less healthy, and less happy lives. It can be the cause of obesity, vulnerability to mental illness, and even susceptibility to deadly diseases. And while hunger can be terrible for adults, it’s even worse for children. It can affect children in ways, as hunger and malnourishment are closely tied together.
Without receiving proper nutrients in their critical years of growth, these children will be at a drastic disadvantage for the rest of their lives. 1 in 6 children goes to bed hungry each and every night. In addition, children who suffer from hunger can have compromised immune systems, opening up the door to developing various health problems. They do worse academically and socially and risk becoming so affected by these problems that recovery becomes impossible.
