It isn’t really a good idea to pack all your dishes, or anything else, using newspaper, oftentimes because the newspaper ink will end up bleeding onto your items, ruining them. Packing paper is the best material to use instead since it’s pretty much the same thing, but without the ink. This paper can be bought in bulk for an affordable price. A lot of big department stores carry it as well, and you can also find it from moving companies, home depot, etc.
Another good alternative to newspaper, or packing paper is bubble wrap, though it can be a tad bit more expensive. Bubble wrap provides good protection for your fragile items. Towels are another great substitution to newspaper. They’re thick and provide a good amount of cushioning at the bottom of boxes, so if you do it correctly, you should be able to pack 2-3 plates for each towel.
Always pack dishes vertically, laying them flat in the box will make it more likely that the weight of them being on top of each other will crack the other dishes when the truck hits any bumps on the road. Make sure you use enough materials when packing to wrap everything. The more materials you use, the better it will be. You can also always ask your moving company to pack your items for you, too, though it will end up being a little more money. If the company has a good reputation, you can rest assured your items will make it safely during the trip.
